At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, lived a boy named Shepherd. His life was essentially untarnished, and unsophisticated. His only responsibility was essentially to tend to his herd of sheep.

Their soft bleating and the rustling of the gales through the single tree on the mountaintop were his only associates. Day in day, looking out for his charges inculcated in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.

But, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. On one such day from sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome scheme.

Stories of wolves hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the hamlet. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a prank on the website villagers.

One morning he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This prank continued for a few days more. However, one noon, a real wolf did charge at the herd. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the results of false alarms.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was in the past.
